Outreach Process

The Esperanza Energy team has taken a new and refreshing approach to project development that is responsive to California’s unique needs.

Regulatory Guidance
The Esperanza Energy team initially developed a general goal to provide a new source of natural gas to California consumers in the most environmentally responsible manner possible. The team approached federal, state and local regulatory agencies early in the development program to better understand applicable rules and regulations, and to find proven but innovative ways to best meet and even exceed them. The information gained through these early pre-filing meetings highlighted key environmental and safety criteria that the project needed to meet. Following these meetings, the team established these criteria as top priorities to incorporate in the project’s design.

LNG Public Policy Climate
The Esperanza Energy team understands that statewide, regional and local public policy issues influence the acceptability of any proposed major energy project in California. The Esperanza Energy team’s unparalleled expertise in California environmental and regulatory matters facilitated the identification of additional site and technology selection criteria that needed to be met – all of which further influenced the project’s design.

On-Going Public Consultation Process

The Esperanza Energy team developed a preliminary site and technology proposal based on a comprehensive set of environmental, safety and regulatory criteria. The team then met with key stakeholders to determine our preliminary proposal’s acceptability. The team listened carefully and, based on feedback from interested parties, modified its proposal to further reduce potential environmental impacts and increase the project’s potential benefits to Californians. The team continues to meet with stakeholders and listen to their concerns and, when necessary, modifies Port Esperanza to become an even better project.

The Esperanza Energy Team has found these pre-filing meetings to be extremely helpful. We will continue conducting them both prior to and after Esperanza Energy files its applications with regulators to start the formal public review process.

Esperanza Energy’s goal is not only to meet California’s environmental, public health and safety requirements, but also to exceed them. Our dedicated public consultation process provides us with the forum to achieve this goal.
