Throughout
40-plus years of operation, the LNG industry
has an excellent safety record. Port
Esperanza draws upon the industry’s best
practices and enhances them with innovative
but proven technologies and with a steadfast
commitment to protect California’s
environment.
Esperanza
Energy chose its site out of respect for the
public’s preference for offshore facilities.
Furthermore, the offshore location is
convenient for ships to off-load supplies
due to the area’s long-established maritime
shipping lanes.
Port
Esperanza differs from other proposed
projects because its use of technology
enhances safety measures and service
reliability, including its innovative
off-loading system. Unlike other proposed
projects which require transfers from
free-floating ships to stationary platforms
or floating storage facilities, Port
Esperanza’s off-load system directly
attaches to any standard design LNG ship and
moves in coordination with the ship’s
movements. Its location is in the U.S. Coast
Guard’s Vessel Traffic Service active
monitoring range, further adding to the
facility’s safety and security.
The project
will install its water and natural gas
pipes, along with communications and
electrical lines, in a utility conduit
buried deeply beneath the ocean floor and
will avoid contact with populated areas. The
utility conduit depth greatly increases
public safety and safeguards the coastal
environment.
